JUDITH GIESBERG

Judy Giesberg is professor of history at Villanova University.

Her most recent book is Sex and the Civil War: Soldiers, Pornography, and the Making of American Morality (UNC Press, 2017). She is also the principal editor of Emilie Davis’s Civil War: The Diaries of a Free Black Woman in Philadelphia, 1863-1865 (Pennsylvania State University Press, 2014) and the project director of Memorable Days: The Emilie Davis Diaries, which scanned and transcribed the diaries of Emilie Davis, a young African American resident of Philadelphia who recorded the experiences of daily life during the Civil War. In addition to numerous articles, Giesberg is the author of “Army at Home”: Women and the Civil War on the Northern Homefront (UNC Press, 2009) and Civil War Sisterhood: the U.S. Sanitary Commission and Women’s Politics in Transition (Northeastern University Press, 2000).
