  1. I just received Dr. Hill Edward’s THE RISE AND BETRAYAL OF THE FREEDMAN’S BANK SAVINGS AND TRUST and look forward to carefully reading it. I’m particularly happy to see my native New Orleans included in the narrative. The Free Labor Bank was promoted in my gg grandfather’s NEW ORLEANS TRIBUNE (America’s first Black daily) and the bank’s cashier, Charles Sauvinet, knew him well.
